The Sponsored Employees Program is a professional and personal development opportunity for employees with potential in your organization. Employees from public and private sector organizations are “loaned” by their employers for a 15-week period to help with United Way’s annual campaign. They bring with them great energy and enthusiasm to the campaign. They benefit personally and professionally through this unique opportunity.
Sponsored Employees work as part of a campaign team that supports workplace campaigns in approximately 400 worksites in KFLA. They facilitate and attend campaign meetings and events, mobilize support, promote the campaign, train, motivate and support volunteers, and create awareness about how United Way is working to build a stronger community for all.

Testimonials from Sponsored Employees
“I wasn’t sure what would be involved in being a United Way Sponsored Employee. I guess I had some thoughts about what it might be like but I could never have thought that it would be such a great experience. Working with the staff and other loaned representatives at the United Way has given me a real feeling of accomplishment. The opportunity to work with a team that has one common goal is tremendous. The United Way of Kingston is about community and there is no other organization that exemplifies it more then the people that work for them. It has been an absolute pleasure working on this campaign.”
– Chris Stafford, Corrections Canada
“As I look back on my weeks at the United Way, I have gained so much. I have learned how important the United Way campaign is to Kingston and area. I have enjoyed meeting so many people from our community. I have beaten some comfort zones with the help of training. I have picked up skills that I would not get from my job in manufacturing. I hope that I will be able to use this in the future at my job. Words cannot say how much I will miss the staff at the United Way.”
– Nicole Young, Novelis Kingston works, USW Local# 343
“It was an honour to be selected for this experience. The biggest impact on me was how the United Way network efficiently raises & distributes the funds, according to the community’s needs, giving attention to immediate needs & longer term solutions. We actually worked at several of the agencies, and witnessed the valuable work that they do, often with very scarce resources. I don’t think that I have ever worked with a group of people who are so committed to their work. The campaign is run with the value of years of experience, and it was fascinating to learn how a professional fundraising campaign works.”
– Kay Munn, Empire Life

The sponsored employees program provides us with an excellent development opportunity for our star performers, and the people we send out come back feeling energized, renewed and with a sense of purpose, which spreads throughout the organization.”
