‘Volunteers Grow Community’ Awards Nominations Due March 25
Local Volunteer Centre Celebrates National Volunteer Week with Special Awards and Breakfast
United Way Volunteer Centre has opened its call for nominations for the annual Volunteers Grow Community Awards to honour Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington residents who make a positive difference in our community.
As part of National Volunteer Week, April 21st through 27th, the spot light will shine on dedicated individuals including youth, families and groups, in celebration of their significant contribution to the community through volunteerism.
Charities, organizations, and individuals are invited to nominate volunteers who are active in local not-for-profit organizations. These include charities, agencies, hospitals, schools, sports leagues, religious institutions, community centres, research facilities, long-term-care facilities or cultural groups. Nominees can be selected for their outstanding volunteer efforts in coordinating initiatives, organizing events, mentoring or coaching, providing leadership on Boards, committees, or in celebration of an exceptional length of service.
“Our community is very fortunate to have a strong spirit of volunteerism,” says Jim Brown, Chair of the Volunteer Centre Advisory Committee. “We are extremely pleased to publicly recognize the contributions of volunteers each year with these awards, and to have the opportunity to inspire others to make a positive difference in our community.”
Nomination Forms are available at the United Way Volunteer Centre’s Bagot Street office or through their website. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 25th.
Volunteers will get the chance to take a well-deserved bow, with awards being handed out at a special Breakfast event on Friday, April 19th, 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the K-Rock Centre, 1 The Tragically Hip Way, Kingston.
The volunteer awards in KFL&A are sponsored by Investors Group who have also sponsored the breakfast keynote speaker. Celebrated Canadian philanthropist and media personality, Craig Kielburger, will be the featured speaker of the morning. At the young age of 12, Craig began volunteering in his home town of Thornhill, Ontario. Now, a sought-after speaker around the world, Kielburger is the founder of Free the Children.
General admission seating for the breakfast event is $20 per person. Reserved seating for tables of 8 is $175. This year’s breakfast event is also sponsored by the K-Rock Centre and Bell.
