KINGSTON, ONT./May 26, 2015 – Support the United Way KFLA and get beautiful, hardy, water-smart plants for your garden – plants that only need to watered during the driest of times. On Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Utilities Kingston hosts a charity plant sale at its water conservation garden, 1211 John Counter Blvd. Prices start at $5 (cash only) for a one-gallon pot. Quantities are limited, so come early!
From Echinacea to Siberian Iris and Variegated Maiden Grass, check out some of the plants for sale:
- Geranium macrorrhizum album: Plant in partial sun. This low-growing mound of green foliage has small white flowers in spring and is drought tolerant.
- Lavender grosso: This plant needs sun and dry soil. It has dusty green leaves on a grey stem, with a multitude of fragrant purple flowers.
- Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’: Likes sun and grows well in hot, dry conditions. Enjoys its dusty pink, broccoli-like flowers that attract butterflies.
- Sweet Woodruff: Prefers moist, shady ground. It’s often used as a ground cover and spreads through traveling rhizomes (rootstocks).
