Empire Life recently announced that Les Herr, Chief Executive Officer, will be stepping down at the end of May 2014. On behalf of the community, we would like to thank Les for his leadership and his commitment to Kingston and area.
In the six years that Les has served as CEO of Empire Life, he has demonstrated personal leadership and dedication through his support of charities in the community. He joined the United Way Cabinet upon his arrival to Kingston, and has been campaign chair twice, in 2010 and 2011. In fact, the United Way campaign crossed the $3 million mark in 2010 under Les’ leadership. These years saw some of the highest growth rates in the United Way campaign, enabling the support of programs that serve thousands of people in our area.
Empire Life supports the United Way and the community in so many ways. The Leadership Challenge Grant has been supported by Empire Life in 2010, 2011 and 2012, growing the campaign and leadership giving by half a million dollars over these three years. Their corporate match shows employees and retirees their commitment to the communities they serve across the country. The company encourages employees to volunteer, participating in and supporting United Way committees and events, and we, along with numerous charities in the area benefit from dedicated Empire Life volunteers.
Les, with his charismatic leadership, has motivated volunteers and shared his passion for building a stronger community. He has continued to support and grow the tradition at Empire Life to support local charities. He has led fundraising for Thousand Islands Playhouse and Pathways to Education. In 2012, Les received the Paul Harris award from the Rotary Club of Kingston.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of United Way of KFL&A, I would like to thank Les for his extraordinary leadership, support and commitment to our local community. Volunteers are critical to the success of an organization like ours and we cannot thank all of them enough for the time and energy they invest.
We wish Les well with the next phase of his career and look forward to his ongoing support of our community.
Thank you, Les!
Peter Clarke, Chair, Board of Directors
