United Way KFL&A Takes Aim at $3.35 Million Goal
Every dollar raised makes a difference in our community
The local United Way kicked off its annual fall fundraising campaign by unveiling their fundraising goal as more than 600 enthusiastic supporters and volunteers packed the Ambassador Conference Resort. Campaign 2012 Chair Lloyd Fleming announced that this year the campaign target is $3.35 million – a $150,000 increase over last year’s goal.
“When I began my journey as your Campaign Chair, I reflected on why I give to the United Way and specifically why I volunteered to lead this dynamic team,” says Fleming. “For me, the answer to both questions is easy. The United Way provides a simple, straight-forward means by which I can assist others through various agencies with one donation through my payroll pledge.”
The campaign will focus on telling the United Way story and attracting additional donors, especially in the workplace. “The campaign is truly a community effort,” says United Way President and CEO Bhavana Varma. “There is so much generosity in this community. People come together to support family, friends, neighbours.”
Approximately 81% of the money raised in 2011 was from workplaces. The remainder came from direct-mail and events. More than 400 KFL&A workplaces will run United Way campaigns over the next 11 weeks, with the help of more than 2,000 volunteers.
The United Way serving KFL&A takes great pride in stewardship of both donor trust and donor dollars. For the year ending 2011, 88% of funds received were immersed in programs while 12% went towards fundraising and related administrative costs.
