Pick up a book and read to the children in you life
That’s the message from a beloved character who visited Kingston on Saturday.
Franklin the Turtle made a public appearance at the Kingston Chapters store in support of the United Way.
Local celebrities, including readers from CKWS, took turns reading to the children.
The reading event kicked off “Success By 6 Week” … which features all sorts of things to do until Mother’s Day.
Julie Brown – Co-Chair, Success by 6 Week:
“Reading is so important for young children… and when you read to them, they become interested in reading, as well, and they’ll soon pick up a book independently.”
Kim Hockey – KFLA United Way:
“We’ve been really, really fortunate, for the last 8 years, to have an event called, ‘Success By 6 Week’; and it focuses on raising awareness about the importance of early years in our community… focusing on… parents and young children aged zero to six.”
