Spirit of Community shines through in United Way 2012 Campaign
United Way Campaign Raises over $3.4 million to address increasing needs in the community
KFL&A residents set another local fundraising record as the United Way’s annual fall campaign raised $3,403,260 this year. Campaign Chair Lloyd Fleming, Vice President, Central and Northern Ontario District BMO Bank of Montreal, made the announcement this morning in front of a sold-out crowd at the Campaign 2012 Touchdown Breakfast at the Ambassador Conference Resort.
“Without a doubt this campaign was a particularly tough one. However, during the last 11 weeks, we have seen incredible acts of generosity across all industry sectors and from individual donors” said Fleming. “The people of the KFL&A area have again proven that when times are tough they can come together in a spirit of community, and we’re so very grateful for their support.”
The funds raised in the 11-week region-wide campaign represent a 1.6% increase over the $3,350,000 goal and a 2.2 per cent increase over 2011 campaign announcement of $3,327,000 last year.
This marks the 14th straight year in which the community has surpassed its goal and set a new record for most money raised in a single-season local fundraising campaign.
“I am always amazed by the caring and generosity of people in KFL&A,” says United Way President and CEO Bhavana Varma. “Thousands of volunteers devoted their time and effort to raise awareness about the importance of United Way. Thank you to everyone who worked on the 2012 Campaign.”
The announcement includes estimates of donations that continue to come in as workplaces continue with fundraising events and many individuals plan their giving to coincide with the holidays.
All of the money raised will go to work right away to support vital social programs used by people in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington every day. Over the next few weeks, community volunteers will review funding applications and make recommendations to the United Way board of directors.
