Novelis Volunteers Update Shelter Kitchen
A group of volunteers from Novelis will be helping update a local youth shelter this month.
As part of a program Novelis is planning large-scale volunteer projects and the United Way KFL&A has helped the aluminum products maker identify a local project. As a result, the Kingston Youth Shelter, a United Way-funded agency, will receive a makeover.
Volunteers from Novelis will spend the week of Oct. 15 to 19 refurbishing the kitchen and installing new equipment, cabinets, cupboards, counters, fixtures and backsplashes. Volunteers will also upgrade the back patio by adding a fence, lighting, landscaping and new furniture.
The Kingston Youth Shelter has been a United Way KFL&A member agency since 2007.
“Our partnership with the United Way is critical to the operation of the shelter and we are very grateful that they were able to connect us with Novelis so that we could partner on this project,” said Jason Beaubiah, director at the shelter. “In addition to providing youth with a safe shelter, we strive to teach them daily life skills to help them live independently. The kitchen plays a key role in those lessons.”
