Empire Life employees celebrated the end to another successful campaign at a touchdown barbecue in their back parking lot of their 259 King Street Head office on Friday October 11.
This year, employees raised $257,000 (and still counting!) for United Way agencies and programs and saw an increase in their overall pledge participation. All employee pledge dollars were matched by the company.
“We are overwhelmed by our employees’ enthusiasm, support and generosity from all of our offices across the country,” says Campaign co-chairs Sheila Karras and Ian Brown. “And we’d especially like to thank the more than 40 volunteers who lent a helping hand to make our campaign a success and the many local businesses who donated prizes to our campaign.”
The campaign team chose the theme “Many hands” for their campaign because it takes many hands to build a community and to make a difference. New to the campaign this year was the ability to pledge online with ePledge, which helped drive donations across the country. The campaign team also ran a special Seeing is Believing tour for Next Gen employees. Employees were nominated by their managers to attend the tour.
It’s not an Empire Life campaign without some fun, and after the pledge blitz week, the focus shifted to events with a bake sale, silent auction and senior management challenge at their touchdown barbecue: a water balloon toss that required steady hands and watery feet and was a splash with spectators.
Congratulations, Empire Life!
