Les Herr is Back as United Way Campaign Chair
Empire Life President & CEO Les Herr is stepping into a familiar spotlight.
The United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington announced today that Herr will chair the organization’s 2011 community-wide fall fundraising campaign. It’s a role he knows well, as he also served as chair of the 2010 campaign, taking over in late August from Corrections Canada Deputy Commissioner Ross Toller.
The United Way made the announcement at its annual Volunteer Appreciation & Awards Night, held Monday evening at the Residence Inn by Marriott.
The night was a celebration of the 2010 campaign that set a 12th consecutive local fundraising record and, under Herr’s leadership, crossed the $3-million mark for the first time in KFL&A history. The campaign raised $3.145 million for community and social services throughout the region. “It’s wonderful to see such a level of support in Kingston for the United Way and the programs it supports,” Herr says. “Our community is full of everyday heroes who work tirelessly to make KFL&A a better place to live.”
A native of Stratford, Ontario, Herr joined Empire Life as Director of Sales for Central Canada in 1999. He earned steady promotions until 2008, when he was chosen to succeed another former United Way Campaign Chair, Doug Hogeboom, as the company’s President and CEO.
Herr says he’s excited to be the first Campaign chair in a long time to serve back-to-back terms, and he’s particularly looking forward to joining forces once again with the thousands of volunteers and donors who dedicate themselves to the United Way cause. “I’m honoured to be the Campaign Chair again this year,” he says, “and I’m honoured to be part of such an exceptional volunteer team. They are all heroes in my eyes.”
