Kielburger Helps Shine the Spotlight on Volunteers
United Way Celebrates National Volunteer Week with Breakfast, Awards
Volunteers from across Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington will have the opportunity to take a bow as the local United Way salutes their efforts in helping to transform our community.
United Way Volunteer Services, newly introduced in 2011, is hosting a Volunteer Breakfast & Awards on Tuesday, April 17th from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. at Davies Hall in St. Lawrence College. The breakfast will shine the spotlight on volunteerism and the people who make a difference with their generosity every day.
New York Times bestselling author Craig Kielburger, founder of Free the Children and Me to We, who
started his illustrious volunteer career at age 12, will be the featured speaker.
“Hearing from a powerful philanthropist such as Craig will remind us all of the difference we make as volunteers in our community,” says Jacquie Costron, Regional Director of Investors Group and sponsor of the speaker and the breakfast. “What better way to celebrate National Volunteer Week?”
The United Way and Investors Group are presenting another appearance by Kielburger later in day as he delivers an inspirational address to a group of high school students from both local school boards at McArthur Hall at Queen’s University.
Also on the agenda at the breakfast is the distribution of this year’s Volunteers Grow Community Awards that are given out each year to dedicated volunteers who contribute significantly to the KFL&A community through their volunteer pursuits.
Tickets $12 each and available through the United Way office, 417 Bagot Street. Seating is limited to please call 613-542-2674 or email volunteer@unitedwaykfla.ca
