For Immediate Release:
The following is a joint release from the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston
Kingston, ON (Jun 4, 2019) – Effective June 30, 2019, St. Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston will no longer be a partner agency of United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington.
As St. Vincent de Paul prepares to launch their fundraising campaign, the agency reached out to the United Way KFL&A to share their decision. Both organizations agree that the agency can broaden its community reach and best serve the needs of the community by expanding their fundraising activities to a year-round schedule. This will ensure that St. Vincent de Paul continues to be a stable and viable Kingston-based charity.
“United Way works with individuals, organizations and key partners in KFL&A to strengthen the community, bringing people and resources together to facilitate change. As partner agencies, like St. Vincent de Paul, increase their organizational and fundraising capacity, they become more self-sufficient,” said Mike Ryan, Chair, Board of Directors of United Way KFL&A. “We see this as a positive step and support their decision. We wish them the best of luck in this next stage. We will continue to support the amazing work they do in our community in any way we can.”
The United Way recognizes its longstanding relationship with St. Vincent de Paul, funding their WearHouse, which provides those in need with access to gently used clothing, household items and emergency food, and their Hospitality Centre which provides nutritious meals throughout the week, year round.
“We have appreciated the funding and assistance we have received from the United Way all these years,” said Andrew Hamilton, Chair, Board of Directors for St. Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston. “Our continued growth and community recognition leads us to believe we can now be successful with our own campaign. This will provide funding from United Way to be made available for other agencies that require it.”
While the agency will no longer be designated as a partner agency, the connection between St. Vincent de Paul and United Way KFL&A will remain strong and both organizations plan to continue to support and work with each other.
