Fleming Steps Up to Lead United Way Campaign
Banking Leader Becomes 70th Campaign Chair
One of KFL&A’s prominent banking executives has agreed to lead the region’s largest annual fundraising campaign.
The United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington announced today that Lloyd W. Fleming, Vice President of BMO
Bank of Montreal, Central & Northern Ontario District, will
chair the organization’s 70th
annual campaign this fall.
A 35-year veteran of the banking industry, Fleming has been an active supporter of the local United Way over the last couple of years, serving as chair of the Finance Sector in 2011. He has also taken on leadership roles in United Way campaigns in Belleville, Quinte West and Peterborough.
“The United Way has always been an important presence in any community I’ve lived in,” says Fleming. “It has the unique ability to allow us all to support broad segments of our community with one gift. You never have to worry about where your money goes. The United Way has the infrastructure to make sure it gets to where it’s needed the most.
“You don’t have to look far to see the United Way’s impact on our community, and I’m looking forward to taking up the challenge and working with people in every sector and building support for a wonderful organization.”
“We’re excited about the leadership Lloyd will bring to the Campaign,” says United Way outgoing Campaign Chair, Les Herr. “He understands the community and he’s a great leader with the ability to bring people together. He was a natural choice to chair the Campaign.”
Fleming’s focus during Campaign 2012 will be to increase participation rates among the 400-plus workplaces that stage United Way fundraising campaigns each fall. “We want to let people know that every gift is appreciated and important,” he says. “The greater the number of people who are participating, the better off we’ll all be.”
While Campaign 2012 doesn’t officially start until September, Fleming will be busy over the next few weeks recruiting senior volunteers from across the community to serve on his Campaign Cabinet.
