Empire Life Everyday Heroes Raise $263,726 for the United Way
Empire Life employees and retirees across the country answered the call to action by raising $263,726 in support of the United Way.
The Empire Life workplace campaign supports United Ways-Centraides across Canada including the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) chapter. Dedicated teams of employees volunteer their time to plan events and activities that included an annual community garage sale in Kingston, live and silent auctions, 50/50 draws, bake sales and breakfast events in Montreal, as well as an individual pledge drive throughout the organization. Building on the KFL&A theme of “Be an everyday hero for the United Way”, Empire Life 2011 co-chairs Kim Lopes and Luke Woolliscroft kicked off the fun dressed up as Batwoman and Batman.
Every dollar pledged by employees is matched by Empire Life.
“No amount is too small to donate and it is the combined effort of us all that makes a difference,” says Les Herr, Empire Life President and Chief Executive Officer, and 2011 Chair of the KFL&A campaign. “Our employees really are everyday heroes, not only because of the dollars they give, but through the time, effort and caring they commit.”
Empire Life has a long tradition as a leading corporate supporter of the United Way. Since 2003 employees and retirees have donated almost $1.5 million to United Way organizations across Canada.
“We are honoured to count Empire Life as a partner and friend,” says Bhavana Varma, President of United Way serving Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. “This generous gift is another example of our community recognizing the value and life-changing impact United Way programs can have and how working together we can make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
