Community Poverty Reduction Plan seeks recruits
Five working groups will concentrate on poverty-related issues
The City, the United Way Serving KFL&A, and the Kingston Community Health Centres are seeking members for five working groups that will develop action plans to reduce poverty in Kingston.
“This is a great opportunity for concerned Kingstonians – and, particularly for those living in poverty who are the unfortunate experts in this area – to contribute strategies that will really help,” says Lanie Hurdle, Commissioner of Community Services.
Each working group will have its own area of focus and members will be expected to contribute poverty-reducing ideas and strategies to action plans that will become part of the Community Poverty Reduction Plan. The areas of focus include:
• Housing
• Skills Development and Employment
• Community Supports for Education
• Social Services & Community Supports
• Health
In addition to grassroots members of the community, all the working groups will include representatives from stakeholder groups and organizations.
An orientation session will be held for all working group members on Tuesday, June 12 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (the location will be announced closer to the session). If needed, costs for childcare or transportation will be covered.
