United Way KFL&A offering virtual Leadership Development Services Workshops
Public workshops are designed for board members, senior staff and volunteers
KINGSTON, ON (March 24, 2021) – United Way KFL&A works to strengthen the voluntary sector of our community by offering training and workshops to non-profit organizations throughout KFL&A. The Leadership Development Services (LDS) public workshops are designed for board members, senior staff and volunteers of local agencies, to build capacity and develop skills for effective non-profit leadership.

In years past, these workshops have been offered in person, but with the COVID-19 Pandemic, they were unfortunately cancelled in 2020. Now, with virtual capabilities, United Way KFL&A is pleased to be able to offer these workshops once again in 2021 virtually, via Zoom.

“The Leadership Development Services Workshops are a great opportunity for local non-profits to learn more about topics that are critical for strong governance and operations,” explained Bhavana Varma, President and CEO, United Way KFL&A. “Board members, senior staff members and volunteers get a chance to participate, share ideas, learn about topics that apply directly to them and their work, network and find ways to strengthen their organizations.”

Workshops are made possible through sponsorship from KPMG and through professional facilitators leading the workshop and providing a forum for discussion and questions.

“We are grateful for the ongoing support from KPMG and for our amazing facilitators who are always eager to share their expertise, answer questions and learn from the participants,” added Varma.

The first workshop for 2021 will take place on March 31 and will focus on Risk Management. Facilitator, Kim Murphy, Executive Director, Risk and Safety Services at Queen’s University will lead the workshop.

“Risk management is an integral part of an effective decision making process, allowing decision makers to make informed choices and prioritize actions,” she explained. “Organizations can be better prepared to manage uncertainty and risk events by utilizing a structured process to identify, assess and prepare for those events,”
