Day of Caring

DOC-LOGO-2012-w-UW-logo-smallDay of Caring is a community-wide United Way event that demonstrates the power of volunteering. On Friday, June 8th, 2018 200 volunteers, making up 24 teams from a wide range of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington workplaces spent the day working on 24 projects in our community.

Participants took on light construction, gardening and maintenance tasks while gaining behind-the-scenes insight into the work of local agencies and organizations. It was a win-win for all; much-needed projects were completed and volunteers learned about their community through a hands-on experience.

Committee chair, Michele Finney, says, “The Day of Caring gives workplace teams the chance to give back to local agencies for all the hard work they do in our community. Volunteers have an opportunity to learn more about local agencies while assisting them to complete much-needed work. Encouraging volunteerism and instilling in workplaces the power to give is so important in growing a strong, healthy and connected community.”

Day of Caring was introduced to KFL&A in 2001. Since then, 15,000 volunteer hours have been invested in over 350 projects.

This year’s event was sponsored by Hydro One, Empire Life, Portuguese Cultural Centre of Kingston, Tim Horton’s and Wilkinson and INVISTA (Canada) Company.
