CEO Update from United Way KFL&A – November, 2021

Good morning! We are 10 days away from wrapping up this year’s United Way KFL&A campaign and announcing what has been raised by this compassionate and caring community! Thank you to everyone who has donated and shown their local love – the campaign now sits at 90% and climbing! I am always impressed by our amazing and passionate workplaces, volunteers and community donors. I hope you will join volunteers and supporters at the virtual touchdown on November 25th – details below.

2021 Campaign Touchdown

The 2021 Campaign Touchdown celebrations feature United Way Campaign Chair, Daren Dougall, the Town Crier, messages from local leaders and agencies, Emcee extraordinaire and United Way Board Chair, Pat Murphy, and the all-important number reveal!

Although we can’t gather in person for breakfast, please join us for a virtual celebration on Thursday, November 25, from 9:00 – 10:15am by registering online at https://touchdown-2021.eventbrite.ca

A Zoom link will be provided once you are registered.

Thank you to all volunteers

As the campaign winds down for the year, I want to take an opportunity to thank the hundreds of volunteers that help make it all possible each year. From the volunteers on the campaign cabinet, to workplace campaign chairs, to workplace champions, individuals collecting, picking up and sorting items for donation drives and volunteers who help with the allocations process – every volunteer makes a difference and contributes to United Way KFL&A and our community in a meaningful way.

This fall, in addition to all the fundraising drives, volunteers stepped up and helped sort over 1,100 items from the Winter Clothing Drive. United Way volunteers took the time to participate in allocations panels, visiting agencies (virtually), evaluating their funding applications and meeting to discuss recommendations to the board. This process is incredibly important and our passionate volunteers give so much of their time to making sure that the fundraising dollars are allocated appropriately in the community and that United Way is accountable to all of you.

Thank you to each and every one of you for giving your time and talents to your United Way and for helping the community raise the funds that are needed to continue helping those who are in vulnerable situations. Your local love really does change lives and thank you for all your hard work and dedication.

Holiday Giving

Giving Tuesday is coming up on Tuesday November 30th, preceding the holiday giving season. As campaign wraps up, Giving Tuesday is always a reminder to get those last minute campaign donations in – every dollar counts!

And as you are considering what to give for the holidays and are looking at what deals you can find during Black Friday, consider a charitable gift this holiday season. A charitable contribution can be the perfect gift for teachers, colleagues, family, friends, neighbours and those who are near or far this year. By making a donation on their behalf to the United Way KFL&A, your recipient will know that you’re thinking about them, and you’ll know that you’re making a lasting difference in the lives of others right here in your community.

Here are some options that demonstrate how a small gift can go a long way:

  • $25 provides a pair of warm boots for a child this winter
  • $35 provides a healthy food box for a senior in the community
  • $50 provides a day of hot meals at a local meal program
