1 in 5 people who menstruate are likely to experience period poverty
Nobody should have to choose between feeding their family and being able to afford basic hygiene products. Menstrual hygiene products are among the most requested items at food banks, shelters and agencies, but the least donated. Together, we can help fill this gap!
The 2026 donation drive runs from March 1 - March 31
How you can help
- Become a collection site for menstrual hygiene products in the community – download a poster here
- Run a donation drive in your workplace, collecting pads, tampons, liners and other products
- Drop off donations at the locations listed below
- Monetary donations can also be made online.
- Community members can also contact the United Way KFL&A office at 613.542.2674 or at events@unitedwaykfla.ca if none of the above options work and a pickup or drop off can be arranged.
Every donation makes a difference
Following the donation drive, products will be sorted by volunteers and distributed to various agencies in the community (list below).
In 2025, thanks to the amazing support of the community, 131,000 products were collected.

About Period Promise
In 2017 Labour Programs and Services (LPS) started an initiative to address period poverty. Together with United Way Centraides (UWCs), the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and local labour councils (LC’s), we partnered with Bell Media to launch Tampon Tuesday and a series of events and collection drives across the country. Because of this great collaborative work, this initiative has been incredibly successful in providing products to people struggling to access them while also raising the profile of period poverty and menstrual equity.
In 2024, with changes at Bell Media, United Way Centraide Canada was no longer to use the “Tampon Tuesday trademark” and so a strategic shift was made to align our period poverty work to “Period Promise”. Period Promise was launched in 2020 by United Way British Columbia (UWBC) and in 2025 we expanded this initiative nationally. We are grateful to UWBC, and the UWBC Labour Participation Team for their system citzenship.
