Leadership Development Services

United Way strengthens the voluntary sector by providing training and workshops to local volunteers and boards of directors. Our volunteer Leadership Development Services program provides workshops and custom training sessions to nonprofit organizations throughout KFLA.

The Leadership Development Services (LDS) public workshops are designed for board members, staff and volunteers to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become effective and responsible leaders.

LDS Workshops are sponsored by KPMG.

Board Governance Workshops 2017/2018 LDS Workshops

For Board Members and Senior Administrators
(Fee: $25.00)
All Board Governance workshops start at 5:00pm and include light refreshments

Legal Duties and Liabilities of Directors

Board members of non-profit organizations and charities are right to be concerned about their personal liability, and need to understand the risks involved in volunteering on a board of directors, and how to protect themselves.

Risk Management

Risk can be defined as anything that threatens the ability of an organization to achieve its mission. Learn to identify sources of risk, describe the risk management process and identify strategies to manage risk.

Introduction to Roles and Responsibilities of the Board

A non-profit board should lead the organization as a team, establishing a balanced working relationship in which they understand and respect each other. Learn how your board can become a cohesive team enhancing strategic direction and effectively solving problems.

Professional Development Workshops 2017/2018 LDS Workshops

For Senior Staff, Managers, Volunteers and Board Members

Strategic Toolbox (Fee: $30)

This is a starter workshop exploring the strategic process and how to move forward. It encompasses the importance of a strategic plan to achieve your organization’s mandate, arming you with tools for implementation and setting and meeting timelines.

Fundamentals of a Team Member (Fee: $50)

This workshop will cover 3 key phases of being an excellent Team Member: Mindset, Action and Leadership. This will be a principled approach to teamwork, and will be the first building block on the path to leadership excellence.

  • Full day session: $300
  • Management Assistance Program*: $700

* The Management Assistance Program (MAP) is a cost effective way to provide ongoing facilitation and workshops for organizations that may need more than two or three custom workshops but fewer than five.
