About Youth United
Youth United provides meaningful engagement opportunities for youth in KFL&A to learn more about United Way and give back to their community. Youth United aims to engage high school students in KFL&A and encourage them to give back to their community through United Way. Together, they will learn more about the mission and impact of United Way, the needs in their community and how they can make a difference.
How it works
Launched in 2025, students raise funds with friends and classmates through creative activities held from October to December. Students also receive a Youth United branded hoodie to help spread the word. Students are also invited to participate in a United Way Seeing is Believing tour to learn more about the agencies and programs supported in KFL&A.
Following fundraising activities, the Youth United Granting Committee workes alongside United Way staff to review grant requests from local agencies. They make recommendations and allocate funds for a variety of programs.
Thanks to a generous matching grant from RDR Wealth Management, in 2025 students raised $4,000! They chose to allocate funds to a varitey of programs including youth robotics and gardening programs, summer activities for kids, youth connection and peer support programs and rural youth hub and meal programs.

Wear your Youth United hoodie and share with friends and family members why you are supporting Youth United.
Track your volunteer time raising money and helping to decide where the funds will be invested in the community – to help you achieve your goal of 40 hours of volunteer time for graduation.

'Fun'draising ideas
- Dress Down - theme days, pyjama day, sports jersey, pay to dress down
- Snack or bake sales - bring in homemade bakes goods or snacks and sell at lunch or after school events
- Trivia or game days - host a trivia competition or board game competition with a small entry fee and prizes
- “Change for Change” coin drive - decorate jars for classrooms where staff and students can leave their spare change (create classroom vs. classroom competitions)
- Host a talent show, open mic or Battle of the Bands - Students can showcase their talents (music, dancing, etc.) and charge a small entry fee
- “Skip it for United Way” Challenge - encourage students to ‘skip’ buying lunch or coffee for one day and instead donate the $$ to United Way
- Dunk tank or Pie in the Face - raise funds to dunk or put a pie in the face of a teacher, principal, other students

Youth United Matching Grant
