Introduction
We see firsthand the impacts that poverty has on the people and families we serve and the cascading effect on the community as a whole. The City of Kingston, United Way and Kingston Community Roundtable on Poverty Reduction, is pleased and excited to share that in close collaboration with community stakeholders, we will be facilitating the development of a comprehensive plan to establish a long term and collaborative community poverty reduction strategy. This coordinated strategy will focus on improving quality of life while reducing the impacts of poverty.
Project Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is comprised of the following representatives:
- City of Kingston - Lanie Hurdle, Adele Lafrance
- United Way KFL&A - Bhavana Varma, Kim Hockey
- Kingston Community Roundtable on Poverty Reduction - Naomi Mori, Reanna King
Project coordination provided by Tracy Newton, Community Development Facilitator, City of Kingston.
The past six months, the Steering Committee has facilitated a process that places community engagement at the forefront. This plan needs to be a community plan based on the experience, the reality and the solutions of our community organizations, agencies and individuals. Most of all, this community plan needs to build on the existing work that is taking place in the community right now to eradicate poverty and to lessen the impacts of those living in it. They look forward to working with the community on this important initiative.
