Action for Neighbourhood Change
Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC), a United Way initiative, is a poverty-reduction strategy for neighbourhood revitalization that combines the local resources of residents, non-profits agencies, and public and private sector partners to create sustain-able communities.
Studies show that between 27% and 42% of families in Kingston’s north end live below the poverty line. Of those, over half are single-parent families.
Working closely with the City and Community Response to Neighbourhood Concerns, the United Way has developed a community advisory and a resident advisory group. Residents are coming together to voice their opinions, identify needs, and engage in initiatives that are making an immediate difference in their neighbourhood. There is a renewed sense of pride and ownership, a greater feeling of safety, and a stronger connection to community.
