Community Investment Fund
Background
The United Way distributes one-time grants through a variety of funding streams during the year. These grants provide support for capital and program costs that enable agencies to respond to emerging needs and issues in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington.
The City of Kingston has provided grants through its Healthy Community Fund for project grants. In 2010, the City of Kingston approved the Sustainable Kingston Plan, identifying priorities to encourage all of us to be wise stewards of our community, and to help guide its funding decisions for not-for-profit organizations. The United Way has facilitated a volunteer committee process and has administered these grants at no charge.
Over the past year the City of Kingston and United Way have worked closely together to streamline their processes for disbursing grants. The intent of this initiative is to minimize the amount of work required from not-for-profit organizations when applying for community grants.
As a result, in 2011 a new coordinated grant application process for community organizations has been developed to eliminate duplication and align efforts with the funding priorities of both the City of Kingston and United Way.
The City of Kingston and United Way Community Investment Fund will disburse one-time grants to organizations that meet an identified need and goal within one of the following 4 Community Impact Areas:
- Belonging to Community: From Poverty to Possibility
- Turning Lives Around: Healthy People, Strong Communities
- Growing Up Great: All That Kids Can Be
- Sustaining Our Heritage (City of Kingston fund only)
