Royal Military College Concert in Scarlets
Saturday, March 17, 2012, 2:00pm. 
Kingston Gospel Temple, Kingston

The show features Brass & Reeds, Stage Band, Pipes & Drums, Highland dancers and Choir performing modern, traditional, military and highland music. College’s Director of Music, Master Warrant Officer Chris Embree, says the afternoon will be full of diverse pieces of music by Igor Stravinsky, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Mes Aleux, and Van Halen to name a few.  Many Stage Band soloists will take the opportunity to play solos in “The Chicken” by Alfred James Ellis. WO Eugene Heather, RMC Drum Major, will take the second part of concert with RMC Pipes & Drums and Highland Dancers. This part will include performances by our best pipers and drummers. 

Admission: $10 for adult and seniors; students $5;  Children 12 and under Free

Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Breakfast
Tuesday, April 17,
 7:00 am-8:30am. St. Lawrence College, Kingston
Come and celebrate the power of volunteerism.  On Tuesday, April 17th, Craig Kielburger, founder of Free the Children and co-founder of Me to We, will be the key note speaker at United Way's first annual Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Breakfast, Davies Hall, St. Lawrence College, from 7:00am to 8:30am. Craig began volunteering in his home town of Thornhill, Ontario at the age of 12 and is a sought-after speaker who is known world round. The event will also recognize the accomplishments of some of our own community's local volunteers. Tickets $12 each.

National Volunteer Week: April 15-21, 2012
National Volunteer Week is a week-long celebration whereby registered charities, not-for-profit organizations and volunteer centres pause to thank and recognize their volunteers. The event was originally developed in 1943 as a volunteer recruitment effort to enlist women for wartime voluntary service and has since grown to engage volunteer-involving organizations from coast to coast to coast.
