Community Services

We offer the following services in the community to support people who are in need of a helping hand:

211 is an easy to remember telephone number that provides access to information about social, health and government services in our community. Services are provided by trained information specialists who assess each caller’s needs and link them to the best available information or service.   211 is now available to all residents of KFL&A through a partnership arrangement between 211, all 3 levels of government and the United Way.

We strengthen the voluntary sector by providing training and workshops to local volunteers and boards of directors.  Our Leadership Development Services provides workshops and custom training sessions to all non-profit organizations throughout KFL&A.

Labour Community Services are provided in partnership with Kingston & District Labour Council.  The Union Counselling program helps workers to find effective solutions and community support for issues outside the scope of their collective agreements.  Union counsellors are often the first contact for co-workers with problems. Workers Help Centre is designed to help both union and non-union workers with access to community resources. This service benefits those who have lost their jobs due to layoffs, downsizing or closures.  It also helps with personal issues or other problems affecting workers.

This year, in response to an identified gap in services, the United Way has introduced United Way Volunteer Services. This no-fee service will enable all not-for-profit organizations to seek volunteers and will allow volunteers to seek out meaningful volunteer opportunities for themselves.
